Acoustic Glass Break Detector
Installation Manual
APPLICATION
The GS930 is an acoustic glass break detector designed to detect break-
ing glass from framed windows in the perimeter of building. The detector
can safely and reliably detect glass breakage on both small and large ob-
jects as well as on single or multiple glazed objects.
INSTALLING THE DETECTOR (FIGS. 1 TO 7)
Select a mounting position for the detector that is on a wall or ceiling adja-
cent to, or across from, the glass surface being monitored;
Only use for indoor installations;
Do not expose to any direct airflow;
Must have a line-of-sight view of all glass surfaces to be
protected;
Locate it no further than 8.5 m and not less than 1.0 m from the glass;
Mount it at least 0.15 m away from an adjacent wall or ceiling and at
least 1.8 m from the floor;
Can be temporarily mounted to conduct an initial functional test;
Must be permanently mounted on a stable and vibration-proof surface;
When closing the cover, ensure that the tamper contact spring is fed
into the recess in the cover.
"
In VDS-approved systems, the detector cover must be sealed with
an additional screw (enclosed with the detector) (Fig. 8).
SPECIAL NOTES
Do not mount the detector on the same wall as the glass surface being
protected.
If the glass is covered by inside shutters or sound deadening drapes,
or where exhibits or display items conceal the detector, check that the
detector is operating correctly before permanently mounting it (see
Functional testing during installation
).
Do not use only one detector to protect glass in multiple rooms even if
the range test indicates the detector is operating correctly. This is a
precaution in case doors or other partitions are later placed between
the rooms.
Do not use in 24 hour-monitoring zones.
PROGRAMMING (FIG. 6)
Power /status LED (Green) Jumper J3
Off Open
On Closed
When closing the pins of jumper J3, the green LED remains lit when power
is applied to the detector. The green LED will extinguish for one second
when a loud sound occurs in the upper frequency rage, noting a pre-trip
condition. However, an alarm is not activated unless the other sound
characteristics required by 3 x 3 technology are also present.
Alarm LED (Red) Jumper J4 RESET Input
Flashing for 2.5 sec Open Open
Latched after alarm Closed Open
Follows alarm relay Closed Permanently LOW
RESET Closed With LOW
When an alarm occurs, the red alarm LED flashes for 2.5 sec. When
latched, the LED will indicate a new alarm by flashing for 2.5 sec. and re-
latching afterwards. The latched LED can be reset by applying a LOW
signal to the RESET input.
FUNCTIONAL TESTING DURING INSTALLATION (FIGS. 5 & 9)
High-frequency range testing:
Remove the detector cover;
Apply power and press the test button (SW2) once. The red and green
LEDs will start to quickly flash alternately. The detector is now ready for
high-frequency range testing;
Replace the detector cover;
Hold the tester near the surface of the glass to be protected and aim the
speaker at the detector from the furthest point of the glass. If there are
closed curtains, hold the tester behind them;
Slide the tester switch to TEST position, and a simulated glass break
sound will be produced every 10 seconds. If the glass is within range, the
flashing LED will latch for 2.5 sec. At the same time the alarm relay is
opened so that the appropriate detection line on the alarm control unit
will trip.
Low-frequency range testing:
To enter this mode while in the high-frequency test mode, press the
test button (SW2) a second time. The LEDs will now flash alternately at
a slower rate.
A sharp blow of the hand or other firm object to a framed hollow wall,
ceiling or door will cause the flashing LEDs to latch for 2.5 sec. and the
alarm relay to open.
IMPORTANT: This test is not a range check.
The test mode lasts 5 minutes after which the detector automatically resets
to the normal operation mode. To manually exit the test mode, press the test
button until the LEDs stop flashing.
FUNCTIONAL TEST IN NORMAL OPERATION
The detector must be in the normal operation mode with the cover in
place.
Hold the GT-2 tester directly against the glass surface to be protected
while aiming the loudspeaker towards the detector. Set the mode
selection switch to RUN.
Slap the glass to be protected with your flat hand. The unit automati-
cally produces a loud simulated glass break sound.
If the detector has been correctly installed, this should trigger an alarm.
