connect its turn-on control to REMOTE OUT output (Fig. 2). A green LED ON indicates when
unit is turned on (Fig. 1).
MUTING CONTROL
VR series amplifiers are provided with automatic muting, delayed at turn-on, and rapid at turn-
off. Turn-on delay time can be externally regulated: MUTE DELAY (Fig. 3). This adjustment allows
the VR's entry into function to be acoustically synchronized with that of a second amplifier whose
muting delay cannot be adjusted. With the VR series, two muting connections are provided.
(Faston 2.8 mm): MUTE IN and MUTE OUT (Fig. 2). By connecting a control to MUTE IN the
amplifier will remain on hold. This input can be connected to radio-cassette player if provided
with the appropriate output, or to the incoming call output of a car phone. When there is a phone
call the system is silenced. When the conversation is finished the sound comes back. If a second
amplifier is used MUTE OUT is connected to its MUTE IN and it then becomes dependant on
the VR for all muting functions. A chain connection is possible using VR amplifiers and the MUTE
DELAY adjustment is only done on the first one. (Fig. 4).
REGULATION
All controls are located on top of the device. (Fig. 3).
MUTE DELAY: see muting control.
MONO-STEREO: see mono connection.
SENSITIVITY: sensitivity adjustment LEVEL L-R separate for each channel.
BI-LEVEL: Allows choosing adequate sensitiviy level for radio-cassette player.
PROCEED AS FOLLOWS
1) Set BI-LEVEL push switch at 0.35-2.2V sensitivity.
2) Turn LEVEL L-R toward minimum sensitivity (-).
3) Turn radio-cassette player's volume to about 3/4 maximum volume.
4) Turn LEVEL L-R toward maximum sensitivity (+) until you get sporadic lighting of PEAK L-
R LEDS (Fig. 1) with high dynamic musical passages. If the LEDS don't light up even after
turning LEVEL L-R all the way up, repeat operation from the beginning setting the BI-LEVEL
at 0.08-0.5V.
IMPORTANT: IF YOU SHOULD HEAR DISTORTION PHENOMENA WITHOUT THE PEAK L-R
LIGHTING UP IT MEANS A DISTORTED SIGNAL IS COMING FROM THE RADIO-CASSETTE
PLAYER. TURN RADIO-CASSETTE PLAYER VOLUME DOWN UNTIL THERE'S NO LONGER ANY
DISTORTION. REPEAT SETTING OPERATION OMITTING STEP 3.
PROTECTION
1) Output protection. Any type of short circuit in the speaker wires, be it between themselves
or to ground, will cause no damage.
2) Temperature protection. Anomolous operating conditions or high ambience temperature
(above 60°C - 140°F) cannot cause dangerous overheating.
3) Protection against inverted polarity. If the polarity of the power supply cables should be
mistakenly inverted the fuse will blow and electronic circuitry be protected. The fuse must
be replaced with an identical one.
4) Protection against continuous output current.
5) Protection against excessive loads dangerous to internal circuitry.
A red LED (SAFE) indicates intervention of protection circuits. Once the cause of malfunction
is eliminated you need only turn off radio-cassette player and turn it back on. The amplifier will
return to normal function.
CHARACTERISTICS
, has concentrated all of its know-how on the VR series of amplifiers rendering them
as technologically advanced as can be made available today. Every aspect has been extensively
attended to and resolved in the best possible way, not only through innovative solutions, but
also by using high quality componentry, paying meticulous attention to detail, and providing
accessory functions to maximize practicality. The PMW regulated type power supply uses
MOSFET transistors which allow a remarkable power capability which doesn't diminish when
battery voltage drops. A second separate voltage, stabilized and appropriately filtered, feeds the
preamplification stages allowing an elevated overall rendering for better heat dissipation
capabilities and to eliminate the classic disturbances generated by the power supply. The
specularly separated PRE stages and a special lay-out permit high disturbance rejection and
a considerable improvement in common mode rejection. The final stage's input employs a
complementary pair of constant current differential transistors polarized by LEDs with clearly
advantageous results in terms of stability and tonal neutratity. The CASCODE voltage driver is
appropriately treated in order to take complete advantage of the superior dynamics of this
configuration. The power stage is made up of a PURE COMPLEMENTARY SYMETRIC TRIPLET
for maximum current linearization, and final stage transistors able to handle currents considerably
higher than those normally required. Total feedback level under 10 dB, the adoption of some
local feedback, and a DC SERVO circuit allow for elimination of crossover distortion at low power
and the right balance of THD and TIM distortion at high power. So ample driving possibilities
are assured which can handle even the most difficult loads. In fact, the undistorted output power
follows a nearly linear path up to loads of one Ohm. Because of these features your VR amplifier
can only provide you with the very finest in listening enjoyment. At we thank you
for rewarding our work which is always aimed at reaching the very best results.
PRECAUTIONS
1) In order for this device to function properly it's important that it be installed in a spot where
the temperature doesn't fall below 0°C (32° F) or rise above 55°C (131° F).
2) It must be installed in a dry and well ventilated spot.
3) The power supply voltage is 12Vcc negative to ground. Make sure that the characteristics
of the vehicle's electrical system are compatible.
4) For safe driving it's advised to listen to music at a volume level that won't drown out external
traffic noise.
INSTALLATION
The VR series is characterized by its relatively compact size considering the features it offers.
This makes installation possible in even the most unlikely places. For mounting use 4 self-
threading screws and protection plastic rings provided (Fig. 3).IMPORTANT: The wooden
moulding which protects controls on top of device must be removed before installing. This
is done by loosening the two bolts with 5mm allen key provided. Once the installation is
completed and proper settings have been made the protective moulding is replaced. For
optimum results it's advised to use products to complete your installation.
These include: power cables, signal cables, speaker wires, RCA connectors and all
accessories needed to complete the wiring.
INPUT CONNECTIONS
PIN RCA CONNECTORS (IN L-R) Fig. 1. Observing polarity, connect L-R inputs to respective
preamplified outputs on radio-cassette player or electronic crossover if used. If the radio-
cassette player's output GND isn't connected to car body, the braided shield of shielded cable
must be connected to the radio-cassette player's chassis.
OUTPUT CONNECTIONS
THREADED CONNECTORS (SPEAKER L-R) Fig. 1. Connect to speakers or speaker system's
passive crossover observing polarity.
IMPORTANT: Never connect the outputs to ground or to each other. If a crossover filter is
used be sure the two channels don't have a common ground.
MONO CONNECTION
Use IN R input (Fig. 1). Draw output from +L, -R (SPEAKERS L-R7) Fig. 1. Position MONO/
STEREO push switch (Fig. 3) to MONO. It's possible to use MONO just for SUBWOOFER
frequencies and STEREO for the higher frequencies. Leave the MONO/STEREO button in STEREO
position and connect according to schematic shown in Fig. 5. Refer to chart for inductance and
capacity values relative to desired crossover frequency.
POWER SUPPLY CONNECTION
Threaded connectors (POWER) Fig. 2. + POWER is connected directly to positive car battery
with fuse and fuseholder (provided) interposed in it's proximity. - POWER is connected to the
car body (Ground) taking care to assure excellent electrical contact; see fig. 6. IMPORTANT:
Use wires of adeguate diameter (minimun 6 mm or 3 A.W.G.).
TURN ON CONTROL CONNECTION
2.8mm Faston connector (REMOTE) Fig. 2. Connect REMOTE IN input to radio-cassette player's
REMOTE, AUX output, if provided, or electric antenna output. If a second amplifier is used,
