Section 4: Group/B us Channel Banks
This sec t ion of the cons ole oer s eight chann el
strips, divide d into the following la yers:
• Eight DC A (digitally contro lled ampli er) groups
• Mix Bus mas ters 1-8
• Mix Bus mas ters 9 - 16
• Matri x Outpu ts 1-6, and the m ain center bus
This sec t ion also conta ins a main LR outp ut fade r ,
which is ind ependent an d always available no
mat ter which chann el bank or layer is ac tive.
When using th e DCA Gr oups layer , the DC A Groups
can be s oloed an d muted, but th ey cannot be
selec te d. T o e dit the DC A grou p names, icons and
color s, navigate to the Set up/DC A Groups p age
on the main disp lay . D CA gro up names, icons and
color c an also be edi ted by pressin g the Utilit y and
Selec t bu tto n concur rently. Once the Setup/scr ibble
str ip page is op en you can dir ec tly sele c t any other
channel f or editi ng its layout in t he same r un.
When using any of the o utput b us layers, notethat
the bot tom LEDs on t he meter s in this se ct ion
illuminate when th e respec ti ve bus is fed f rom
pre -fader so urces of the s elec ted cha nnel.
Sec ti on 3 : Main D isp lay Area
The main color d isplay present s info rmation ab out
various s ec tions of t he console. It c an be swi tched to
dier ent scre ens using the con sole’s View but tons,
as well as any of the 10 but tons on eithe r side of
the display.
The top se ct ion of the main d isplay permanent ly
covers us eful s tatu s informat ion. The top le f t corner
shows the se lec ted channe l number , it s nickname
and the se lec ted icon. The ne x t block show s the
cur rent scene numb er and name in amber, as well
as the ne xt u pcoming scene. The cente r sec tion
displays the playb ack le name along w ith elaps ed
and remaining t ime and a recor der st atus icon.
Thenex t blo ck to the r ight has 4 seg ments to show
the st atus of AE S50 por ts A and B, the C ard slot and
the audio c lock s ynchroni zation s ource and s ample
rate (topright) . Small green s quare indic ators show
prope r connec tivi ty. The right mo st blo ck shows the
console t ime that can b e set unde r Setup/Cong.
When work ing with any gi ven scre en, press the
Page keys loc ated on the disp lay bezel to swi tch to
dierent scre en pages.
Editing p arameter s or set tin gs on each of the s creen s
is done using t he 6 assoc iated push -encod ers along
the bot tom ed ge of the display.

you can tu rn the cor respon ding knob f oredit ing,
which is ind icated by var ious circ ularicons
• When there i s a switch o r toggle f unc tion
on one of the se knob s, you will see a b road
rec tang ular but ton along the lower e dge of the
eld. Pre ssing the encod er changes t he on/o
sta te of the corr esponding f unc tion. W hen the
rec tang ular but ton in the disp lay is dark grey,
thecor respondi ng func tio n is o/inac tive; whenit
is amber , the f unction is on/active
Sec tion 5 : Various Assignments
• Assigning DCA Groups
Thank s to the t wo distin ct f ader gro ups (input s on
the lef t , outpu ts on the r ight) , the ta sk of assigning
channels or bu ses to a vir t ual DCA G roup is a bre eze
on the X 32 P RODUCER. Simp ly hold the re spec tive
DC A Group Se lec t but ton on the r ight-hand side of
the conso le, whilepressin g the Sele ct b ut tons for
all the input c hannels that you wish to a ssign to said
DC A Group. Y ou can also p ress the D CA Gr oup Sele ct
but ton in ord er to check w hich channe ls are already
assigne d to it. Theassig ned channe l Selec t but tons
will light up.
• Custo m Assi gnab le Contr ols:
The As sign sec tio n of the conso le oer s three b anks
of 8 but tons, allowing f or fr eely cus tomiz able
access to 24 random func tio ns on the X 3 2 Compac t.
T o make a custom as signment:
• Press th e View but ton in th e Assign s ec tion to
edit the assignments
• Selec t th e set of cont rols you wish to ed it
(A, B or C)
• Selec t th e control 1-8 you wish to as sign
• Selec t th e paramete r you wish to contro l and
assign the func tion
Usually this is use d to control a sp ecic c hannel’s
parame ter , like the l ead vocalis t ’ s reverb
on/ o status.
The Jump -to- Page control is a sp ecial t arget t ype
that doe s not alter any audio par ameter , but rat her
brings you d irec tly to any spe cied d isplay page.
The “Sends on F aders” Function
The X32 consol e feature s a very u sef ul func ti on
thatcan b e accessed by p ressing th e dedica ted
Sends on Faders b ut ton, locate d bet ween the
t wofader se c tions.
The Send s on F ader s func tio n aids with le vel
set ting of c hannels sent to any of th e 1 6 Mix Buse s.
Itis only fo r channels assig ned to Mix Bus es 1- 1 6,
anddoe s NOT work for DC A grou ps, main or matr ix
buse s. The Sends o n F ader s func tion wo rk s in
t wo convenient ways to cover the mos t obvious
situatio ns in a live sound envi ronment :
When p repa ring a m onito r mix fo r a
specicmusician
• Selec t th e monitor bus (1 -8, 9- 1 6) that feed s the
talent ’s stage monitor
• Press th e Sends on Faders bu t ton;
itwillilluminate
• Selec t on e of the six inpu t channel layers
• As long as t he Sends on Faders is ac ti ve, allfaders
in the inpu t channels se ct ion (loc atedon the le f t
side of the con sole) correspon d to the send levels
to the sele c ted (monitor) mix bus
When c heck ing /editing w here a s elec te d
inpu t signa l is (to be ) sent t o
• Selec t th e input channe l in the lef t s ec tion
• Press th e Sends on Faders bu t ton;

• Selec t ei ther bus chan nel layer 1 -8 or 9 - 16

selec te d input channe l (locate d on the lef t sid e
of the cons ole)
The optio n to use Send s on F ader s in both ways,
selec ti ng an input or an ou tput c hannel, is a special
featur e of the X32.
Cabling f or AES50 connec t ions bet ween X 32 and S 16 stage boxes:
• Shielded C A T -5e cable, Ethercon ter minated cab le ends (recommended)
• Maximu m cable leng th 100 meter s (3 30 feet)

rear-panel XLR input s with micr ophone preamps,
as well as 8rear-panel XLR O utput s and 6 TR S
Aux Sends an d Return s. In additio n, there are t wo
AES50por t s, eachfeatu ring 4 8 input and ou tput
channels, andac ard slot for 32channels of i nput and
outpu ttoand fr om a connec ted com puter via USB2.0.
Input Signals c an be at tache d to the conso le’ s
internal audi o proces sing engine in blo ck s of 8signals
fro m any one of the afo rementione d inputso urces.
Note: All signal bloc ks p atched to the audi o
proce ssing will be conn ec ted to the cor respon ding
input chan nels automatic ally .
Local in puts 17 - 2 4 and 25-3 2 are liste d with
bracket s, indic ating that the se are not physi cally
available on this dev ice. Assigning t hese wi ll
obviousl y carr y no sig nal, but they can s till be us ed
when prep aring shows f or a full X 32 console.
