2 Navigating the menus
Your BT Freestyle 225 has an easy menu system through which you can access many of
your phone’s features and settings, as shown in the menu map below.
1. From the standby screen, press
to open the main menu.
2. Then use the
and buttons to scroll through the options displayed and press
to select the option displayed.
For example, to open the Handset Setup menu: Press
, scroll to
Setup h/set
and press .
Press
to return to the previous menu. Or to exit a menu and return to standby, press
and hold .

3 Making and receiving calls
Make/endacall
1. Press . When you hear the dial tone, dial the number. To end the call, press , or
replace the handset on the base or charger.
Preparatorydialling
1. Enter the number rst. If you make a mistake press
to delete the last digit.
2. Press
to dial.
Handsfree
Press
to switch the call between the earpiece and the loudspeaker.
Earpiece/handsfreevolume
Duringacall, use
and to adjust the volume of the caller’s voice.
Secrecy
1. Duringacall, press
. The icon is displayed and you can talk without your
caller hearing you. Press
again to resume your call.
Receivingcalls
When you receive a call, the base and handset will ring.
1. To answer the call press
. Or if the handset is on the base or charger, simply lift it to
answer the call.
Redial
The last 10 numbers you called are stored in the redial list.

Redial
and press to open the redial list. The most
recently dialled number is displayed. Press
and to scroll through the list.

to redial the number, or press to access further options such as delete
numbers from the list or copy numbers to the directory.
4 Special features
Your BT Freestyle 225 has some special features, including: a 30 entry directory, an
answering machine, Caller Display with a calls list and a BT Services quick access button.
30Entrydirectory
You can store up to 30 names and numbers in the directory to make dialling quick and easy.
Storeanewdirectoryentry
1. Press
to open the directory. When storing the rst entry,
Empty
is displayed.
Otherwise, the rst entry in the directory is displayed. Press
.

is displayed. Press .
Number
is displayed. Using the keypad, enter the full
telephone number and press
.
3.
Name
is displayed.Using the letters on the keypad, enter the name. You may need to
press the same button a few times until the letter you want is displayed. For example,
press
once for
A
,or twice for
B
. If you make a mistake, press . Press to
switch between upper case/lower case and digits, and
to enter a space.
5. Press
.
Stored
is displayed. Press and hold to return to standby.
Dialfromthedirectory
1. Press
. The rst entry is displayed. Scroll or to the entry you want or search
alphabetically by entering the rst letter of the name using the keypad.
2. Press
to dial. Or press to access further options such as edit or delete entries.
1 Getting started
Place your BT Freestyle 225 within 2 metres of the mains power wall socket and telephone
socket so that the cables will reach. Try to position the phone at least 1 metre away from
other electrical appliances to avoid interference and help maximise the handset range.
The handset range is up to 300 metres outdoors and 50 metres indoors (in ideal conditions).
The
icon indicates when you are in range of the base. It will ash and the handset will
beep if you go out of range, in which case you will need to move closer to the base.
Settingup
1. Plug the power adaptor (item code
040371) and telephone cord into the
sockets on the underside of the base.
Onlyusethecablesprovided.
2. Plug the other end of the power
adaptor into the mains power wall
socket and switch the power on.
3. Rechargeable batteries are pre-installed
in the handset. You need to activate
them by pulling the plastic tab away
from the rear of the handset.
4. Place the handset on the base to charge
foratleast16hours. An animated
icon will be displayed to indicate the
handset is charging.
5. When the handset is fully charged the
icon will be displayed. Now plug the other end
of the telephone line cord into the telephone wall socket.
Setupyouradditionalhandsets(2,3and4-Packownersonly)
1. For each additional handset and charger: Insert the cable of the power adaptor (item
code 040371) through the channel at the rear of the charger and insert the plug into the
power socket. Plug the other end into the wall socket and switch on.
2. Prepare the handset batteries as detailed in point 3 above. Then place the handset on
the charger to charge foratleast16hours.
Additional handsets supplied as part of a multipack are pre-registered to the base so, once
charged, are ready for use. Each handset will display its own handset number: 1, 2, 3 and so on.
Setthedateandtime
The date and time is recorded with each answering machine message you receive, so before
you receive your rst message you need to set the correct date and time.
1. Press
to open the menu. Then press to scroll down to
Date/Time
and press .
2. The current year setting is displayed. Enter the last 2 digits of the year (eg. enter 08 for
2008) and press
.
3. The current month setting is displayed. Enter 2 digits for the date and 2 for the month
(eg. for 5th September, enter 0509) and press
.
4. The current time setting is displayed. Enter 2 digits for the hour and 2 for the minute using
the 24hr format (eg. for 10.54pm, enter 2254) and press
.
Stored
is displayed.
5. Press and hold
to return to standby.
Your BT Freestyle 225 is now ready for use.
