Information about different herbs:
Fiskars KitchenGarden™ is a simple & easy
way to have fresh herbs at home. The herbs
are nature’s own way of making any meal a
genuine taste experience.
Herbs need but a few things to stay well:
nutrition, moisture and light. The clear
protective cover keeps herbs protected from
cold and draft.
The LED lighting solution helps every herb
shoot thrive.Upward vegetative growth is
most strongly activated by red spectrum light
between 660 nm and 730 nm. For some
species this part of the spectrum also
activates the sprouting of seeds. Blue
spectrum light stimulates stalk growth and
has also been indicated to stimulate foliage
density.
It is recommended to transfer the herbs in
their plastic container pots to the
KitchenGarden to retain the moisture in the
soil.It is also recommended to always use the
capillary mat to ensure consistent and even
hydration.
Basil
This sweet-smelling herb favorite thrives in
Fiskars KitchenGarden
TM
.A traditional
ingredient in Italian dishes, add at the last
moment of cooking, to maintain the avor.
Parsley
One of the most popular, healthful and multi-
purpose herbs. Parsley is widely used in
different dishes, such as in risottos, sh,
chicken or different stews.
Chives
with its bright green, grassy-looking tops is a
more subtle alternative to the onion in cooking.
Mint
a vigorous herb which works well in desserts
and as a garnish in refreshing drinks.
Rosemary
This woody aromatic herb is used in a variety of
Mediterranean recipes from soups to breads.
Excellent herb for roast meats.
Thyme
Like mint, thyme is a bushy and vigorous herb
with tiny leaves. Try out with potatoes!
Frequently Asked Questions
The light doesn’t go on in my
Fiskars KitchenGarden™
Please check that the transformer is plugged in
and the corresponding jack point is attached to
the light unit. If the power source is connected
correctly and there is still no light, please return
the unit to the dealer from whom you purchased
it.
Can I add water to the growing base through
the top of the unit?
No. Water should be added to the growing base
via the sliding door on the cupola or removing
the cupola all together to add it. Do not over ll
the base – water should never exceed the
indentations in the base of the herb holder.
I have a number of herbs in the
Fiskars KitchenGarden™ - some are
fl ourishing and others are not.
What’s wrong?
There could be any number of reasons –
from the quality of the herbs you purchased,
overtrimming, to the light intensity or the level of
water. Some herbs require more water like basil
and some less. Check the website for more
details on the most common herbs and their
preferences. For herbs using less water, use a
capillary mat in the orange herb holder.

What is the purpose of the capillary mats?
The capillary mats serve to deliver a constant
and even supply of water without waterlogging
the roots of the herb – this suits some herbs
better than others. Simply place the capillary
mat in the base of the orange herb pot and
ensure that the mat touches to the water below.
Why are there only three color variations in
my Premium version?
While the Fiskars KitchenGarden™ can be used
as a mood lamp, its primary function is to make
herbs grow; the light spectrum available in the
standard and premium models have all been
carefully selected to promote optimal growth for
herbs.
Can I grow herbs from seed in
my Fiskars KitchenGarden™
In principle, yes you can. Although the
Fiskars KitchenGarden™ has been primarily
designed to maintain and promote the growth
of store-bought herbs, the light it provides is
optimal for the growth of all plants and seeds.
By all means experiment!
What if my remote control
does not work properly?
Try replacing the batteries with LR03 AAA-
batteries. If this does not help, try to rematch
your remote control by pressing the following
buttons for 4 seconds.
