General points about c arbon monoxid e
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless and non -irritating gas which can
quickly become a deadly threat. The first indications of a small concen tration of
carbon monoxide in the room migh t be mild headache, tiredness, dizzin ess and
nausea. Most of the carbon mono xide in the environment is created during the
combustion process of carbon ic material, for example:

Carbon monoxide can have the following consequential effects on the human
body:
Mild headache, tiredness, dizziness and nausea after 2 to
3 hours.
Headache in the fore head within 1 to 2 hours, life-
threatening after 3 hours
Dizziness, nausea and convulsions within 45 minutes.
Life-threatening after 2 hours
Headache, dizziness and nausea within 20 minutes.
Unconsciousness within 2 hours, dead within 1 hours
possible.
Headache, dizziness and nausea within 5 to 10 minutes.
Dead within 25 to 30 minutes.

The CO-sensor should be ideally installed in following rooms:

In case of several combustion devices but onl y a few amount of
CO-sensors the following criteria should be taken into account when
installing the de vices:

In a 1-room-appa rtment the CO-sensor need to be installed as far as
possible from the cooking area, but as close as possible to the
sleeping place. If there is a combustion device in a less frequ ently
used room (e.g. boiler room), the CO-sen sor should be installed in a
range where the acoustic signa l is clearly audible. An ala rm siren can
be installed and actuated alternatively .
