Insiallation,
The
Repeat
Meter
may
be flush
mounted
in
the
cockpit
or
other
suitable
position
for use
by
the
helmsman
or
navigator.
The
outline
dimensions
of
the
repeat
meter
are
given
in
Figure
5.
A
suitable
sealing
compound
should be used to
ensure
a
watertight
seal
in
tbe
bulkhead.
Connect
the 3-core
cable
from
the
repeat
meter
to
the
main
instrument
asshown
in
the
tablc
below.
The
cable
may be extended
by
using
a
normal
3-way terminal
block
and
3-core 5
amp
cable as necessary.
Care
should
be
taken
that
the
terminal
block
is fully
protected
against
the
ingress of water.

The
Repeat
Meter
is pf(JVided
with a 12 volt 3 watt wedge base
lamp
type
VTY504 with a
push-in
holder
and
short
red
and
black
flying lead connectors. These leads
should
be
connected
to a 12
volt
D.C. supply.

METER OPERATION
The
repeat
meter
is
provided
with three
depth
scales
similar
to
those
of
the
instrument.
The
scales
may
be
independently
selected
provided
that
the
main
instrument
is on a
de
eper
range
than
that
required
on
the
repeater.
1t
is
recom-
mended
that
the
Seafarer
600
be
set
to
the
deep
range
scale "c"
and
the
"gain"
adjusted
to give
a
good
solid echo.
This
eliminates
as
far
as
possible
the
need
to
keep
re-setting the
"gain"
co
ntrol
as the
depth
increases.
With
the
ma
in
instrument
on
range
"C"
the
minimum
depth
reading
is
approximateJy
6 feet (2 metres). Switch-
ing to ranges
"A
"
or
"B"
reduces the
minimum
depth
reading
to
approximateJy
3 feet (I metre).
The
minimum
depth
is
Jimited by a
bubble
suppre
ion
circuit
in
the
instrument
to
pre
ve
nt
faJse
readings
caused by
air
bubbles
in the
vicinity
of
the
transducer.
The
Se
afarer
600
is
fully
guaranteed
under
the
conditions
as
stated
on
the
guarantee
card
sup-
plied
with
the
instrument.
Af
ter
the
guarantec
expiIes,
or
if
problems
,
arise
which
are
not
covered by the terms of the
guarantee,
your
i
nstrument
wil! be
repaired
in
the
United
Kingdom
by
the
manufacturers
or by
onc
of
their
officially
authorised
main
distributors.
Unauthorised
or
inexperienced
pers ons
should
not
attempt

service
the
instrument
since this
is
not only likely to worsen
whatever
fault
has
arisen
,
but
wil!
immediately
nullify
the
Guarantee
.
Should
it
ever
be necessary
to
return
the instru-
ment
for
service
it
is essential th
at
the internaJ
battery
be
removed
and
that
the:
instrument
be
carefully
packed and
insured
for
transit.
A
brief

and
the
symptoms
of
faiJure is
of
great
assistance
to
service
engincers
in Jocating a fault.
Routine
Maintenance.
Tbe
transducer
should
be
examined
periodically
and
if
fitted olltside the
hull
a
thin
coat
of
hard
anti-fouling
paint
should
be
applied
to
the
face
of
the
trans
ducer
with a
soft
brush,
care
being
taken
not
to
trap
air
bubbles
under
the
paint.
A
build-up
of
barnacles
and
other
marine
encrusta-
tion
on
the
face
of
the
transducer
will
cause
pro-
gressive
deterioration
of the
instrument
maximum
depth
capability.
Barnacles
should
be
removed
by
crushing
between a
pair
of
pliers
and
not
tug-
ged off as
tr
.e
transducer
face may
become
irre-
parably
damage~1.
Particles
of
imbedded
shell
can
be dissolved by
applying
a
20%
solution
of
dilute
hydrochloric
acid
,
and
be rinsed oft
with
fresh water.
If
an internal
battery
is fitted, this
should
be
examin
ed
periodically
for
acid
leakage
and
replaced as necessary.
The
battery
should
be
removed if the
instrument
is
not
used
for
an
ex-
tended period.
The
transducer
co-axial
plug
and
socket
COI1-
nections
should
be
kept
clean
and
protected
against
sea water.
The
transducer
cab"le
sbould
be
examined
pcriodicaUy
for
damage,
particularly
where
the
cable
emerges
from
the
plastic
trans-
ducer
stem.
The
instrument
shouJd
be carefuJly
protected
at
all times
from
salt
water
and
the
seals
examined
to
ensure
th
at
water
is
the
instrument.

AdditionaI
or
spare
automatic
change-over,
mounting
brackets
and
not
allowed
to
penetrate
lransducers
as
weU
as
switches,
repeat
meters
,
visors
are
always readily
available
from
Vacht
Chandlers,
Dealers
or
Boat-
yards.
