The chimney con nection
If the existing chimney is not provided with a suitable connecting fitting for the fireplace insert, it is nece ssary to make an additiona l
connecti on. The c himney connect ion height is arrived at the properly situated fireplace insert and an attached smoke flue elbow and a
connecti ng fitti ng – measured from the top edge of the supp ort plate to the centre of the connecting fitting in the e ntrance of the connecting
area. Gaps for the surround, i nsulation, expansi on joint, etc. must be taken into account.
Brick veneer an d thermal side and back wall insulation
The brick veneer and thermal insulation can be m ade after the
suitable c himney connec tion.
Required brick venee r and t herma l insulati on
- Minimal thermal insulation of protected building panels was defined during the test of fireplace insert in accordance with EN 13229.
During the test the thermal insulation made of ce llular calcium-silicate slabs was used ρ = 250 kg/m
3
. It is necessary to use this kind of
material in the prescribed minimal thickness. Other insulation m aterials must be of the same or lower thermal cond uctivity an d a
comparable thermal resistance!
- Brick veneer: a 10 cm thick mineral brick veneer must be m ade exactly on the p rotected building w all (back wall, where appropriate
side wall). The brick veneer m ust abu t onto the insulation lay er and on the protected building side. It must over-lap the connect ing
piece (venting) upwards by at least 20 cm. The insulation brick veneer is no t necessary when th e building wall is 10 cm thick at least
and is not made of combustible material and it is not a
long bearing reinforced concrete wall
.
- Ceiling of the room above the insert ( brick veneer re placement ): if the op en space or th e coating above th e insert reach the room
ceiling, it is necessary to protect the ceiling when it is made of combustible material or it serves as a carrying element. The protec tion
consists of a 6 cm (better is 1 0 cm) thick thermal insulation layer (insulation material index: 12.07.21.75.11 a ccording to AGI Q 132).
It is recommended to take this prev entive measure as a base intermediate floor (e.g. made of sheet -metal) with the insulation material
situated above it. If there is a gap betwe en the ceiling and the insulation, there must be diagonal venting for the gap (2x grilles m in
50cm
2
)!
These preventiv e requirements have been set:

Thermal insulation: conv ection c oating and c onvect ion access plate (outer contour of the facility) need to be coated from all sides by the
thermal insulation layer. The thermal insulation must be without jo ints and must overlap each other on the sides. If these insulating boards
are not f ixed on w alls, o n coating or on abutt ing boar ds, it is necessary to fix them about 30 cm apart. The co ating in wards the room
(aperture) does not need to be insulated when the insert is desig ned in such a way that th e coating surface an d the sur face on the wood
storing ch amber could reach a ma xi mum temperature of 85 ºC . For surfaces made of mineral construction material, ex cept for the areas
where objects could be detached, the ma xi mu m temperature is 120 ºC . Th erm al in sulation layers made of rock wool or comparable material
must be thoroughly coated from the roo m side and convection air a rea as a protection against fibre fraying.
If the connecting piece is passing through building elem ents of combustible materials (for example protecting walls), it is necessary to take
measurements in accordance with national technical standards a nd regulations.
Permitted thermal insulation mater ial and material for brick veneers (minimal requirem ents)
- Thermal insulation: cellular calcium -silicate slabs ρ = 250kg/m3, mineral wool b oards, ceramics fibre boards.
- Brick veneer and surround: Liapor, bricks, concrete, no -fines concrete, stone.
- Alternate brick veneers and thermal insulation m aterial: must be autho rized. They must also fulfil every requirement for thermal
insulation and surrounds. Further information about these construction ma terials can be obtained in specialized stores.
Fireplace insert connectio n
- After insulati on the fireplace in sert can be connect ed by the connectin g p iece to the chimney. The firepla ce insert is
connected wit h the help of the smoke flue made of sh eet metal with the max. length of 1.5 m. the smoke flue must be
provided with t he safety pin to protect it against sliding. W hen the connecting piece goes through parts with combustion
materials (e.g. protective w alls), it is necessary to keep instructio ns in complianc e with national t echnical standard s and
regulations.
It is not allowed to put any other attach ment which is not approved by the manufacturer in to the chimney conn ection.
There must be a safety pin on the smoke flue bellmouth to preve nt slippage or t urning out!
Fireplace insert with pu ll-up system door must be veneered to allow serv ice and repair works. Veneer in the top part above the door of
fireplace must be built up from easy de mountable material (Calsil etc.), or there must be service opening in the place of bea ring (grilles,
thinning of coating etc.). Fram e in the front pa rt of insert with pull-u p system must be built-in in acc ordance with sche me (pict. 4). It allows
later demounting in case of pull up system service. Holes in the cover of the pull- up system have to be through so the air can pass and carry
out the cooling of m echanism.

Convection air holes
In the top part of the surround, it is necessary to provide no n closable convection air holes for a convection air output, in the bottom part, there is
a need of convec tional air input - minimal diameter depends on output of the fireplace insert, mention ed in the Equipment certificate . You need
to consider non effective parts of the grilles (20-40% of the gri lle are a, dependi ng on de sign als o) when c hoosing t he conve nient g rilles f or
input/output of the convectional air and take into account also way of the using (in Equipme nt certificate, nominal output of the fireplace insert
is me ntioned and t he real output de pends on t he amount of w ood in use, the real out put can be for sho rt perio d higher of 50%).
The minimal dimensions of the convectional air grilles for input and output are m entioned in the following chart:
Fireplace insert output (kW)
Convectional air input – grille dimension
(c m2)
Convectional air output – grille dimension
(c m2)
After the fireplace installation neither the air input nor the air vents can be restricted by building panels.
We recommend ordering a p rofessional firm.
To prev ent heat a ccumul ation, the hol es for c onvect ional air m ust be ope n during heating . No lockable grates, ribs, blinds etc. can be installed
into the holes. In the top part the convection coating m ust be finished by the partition wall above the hole so as not to m ake a ther mal pocket
(See surround diagram).
Convection cro ss- sectio n between the insert and the coating as well as the insulation on the re ar side – please check the chart with
measures of prot ection ( se e p.6)
Note: These minimal distances in accordance with the Eq uipment Certificate must be kept
to on all heights and widths of the fireplace insert so as to allow convection air to flow
throug h.
Convection air area: If a prefabricated area for convection air is not used (lining made of a galvanized sheet), it is necessary to maintain a
distance according to the chart on page n .4 between the fireplace insert and rear thermal insulation layer.
The fireplace insert assembly: The fireplace insert can be placed on a fitted base after the making of the therma l insulation as in the
installation instructions. The fireplace insert is connected with the chimney by the connecting pi ece (smoke flue) .
Extension joint: It is necessary to have an extension joint at least 3 mm thick between the insert and the coating. The extension joi nt can be
stemmed by a rope o r sealing tape.
Coating (fireplace surround): The coating of the fireplace insert which leads int o the room must be made of non combustible material of
grade A1 (e.g. tiles, plaster coat, iron or ceram ic tiles). There must not be any direct contact betwee n th e coatings and the fireplace insert.
The coating may overlap only on the separate carrying frame which is clamped to the wall. For adjustme nt, maintenance of a safety val ve, a
pump and accessories or possible repairs it is necessary to provide t he surround with service holes. These ho les are necessar y for these
operatio ns and it i s not nee dful to build the surrou nd.
