Item no. 43 98 41 wireless sweep (non ticking) clock movement, 17 mm
Intended use
The radio-controlled clock movement is used to display the time.
The time is set automatically using an integrated DCF receiver.
The clock movement is built into a clock-face and equipped with suitable hands.
The product may only be powered by a battery (for the type, refer to "Technical data").
Any other use than the one described above may lead to damage to the product and involves
other risks, such as shorts, re, etc.
No part of the product may be modi ed or rebuilt.
This product complies with the applicable national and European regulations. All names of
companies and products are the trademarks of the respective owners. All rights reserved

Safety Instructions
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe
these safety instructions. We do not assume any liability for any resulting
damage.
We shall not accept liability for damage to property or personal injury caused
by incorrect handling or non-compliance with the safety instructions. In such
cases, the warranty will be null and void.
In the operating manual, an exclamation mark inside a triangle indicates im-
portant instructions.
The "Hand" symbol indicates special tips and operating information.
For safety reasons, any unauthorised conversion and/or modi cation to the product is not
permitted. Never dismantle the product.
The product is intended for dry indoor locations only. It must not get damp or wet.
This product is not a toy and must be kept out of the reach of children. Only use the product
out of reach of children. The product contains small parts and a battery that could be swal-
lowed.
Condensation may form when the product is brought from a cold room into a warm one.
Therefore, wait until it has reached room temperature before using it.
Do not leave packaging material carelessly lying around, as it could become a dangerous
plaything for children.
Do not expose the product to high temperatures, strong vibrations or heavy mechanical
loads.
Batteries and Rechargeable Batteries
Batteries/rechargeable batteries must be kept out of the reach of children.
Do not leave batteries/rechargeable batteries lying around; they could be swallowed by chil-
dren or pets. If they are swallowed, consult a doctor immediately.
Leaking or damaged normal / rechargeable batteries in contact with the skin can cause acid
burns; therefore, use suitable safety gloves.
Normal / rechargeable batteries may not be short-circuited, opened or thrown into re. There
is a risk of explosion!
Do not recharge normal, non-rechargeable batteries, risk of explosion! Only charge re-
chargeable batteries that are intended for this purpose; use a suitable battery charger.
Check that the polarity is correct when inserting the battery/rechargeable battery (pay atten-
tion to plus/+ and minus/-).
Installation
Please proceed in the following order:
1. Attach the suspension bracket onto the hand shaft.
2. Attach the enclosed rubber washer onto the hand shaft.
3. Attach the clock movement from the back through the borehole to the clock-face and align it
horizontally with the suspension bracket facing upwards.
4. Place the washer above the hand shaft and tighten the clock movement with the middle
hexagon nut. In this process, make sure you don't tighten the nut too rmly to avoid twisting
and damages.
5. First carefully attach the hour hand to the hand shaft, then the minute hand and at last the
second hand.
6. Adjust all hands to the 12:00 o'clock position.
7. Make sure the hands are aligned parallel to the clock-face so that they don't touch each
other during operation or rub against the clock-face.
8. At last, pull the locking pin out of its borehole. It is located under an adhesive strip on the
casing's rear. This pin locks the clockwork in the 12:00 o'clock position during transport and
storage.
The minute and second hand should not exceed the following dimensions and
weight:
Minute hand: max. 160 mm / 6 g
Second hand: max. 130 mm / 6 g
Location for Use
To ensure correct DCF reception, the clock movement should not be placed next to electronic
devices, cables, metal parts, etc.
Inserting the Battery/Rechargeable Battery
Insert a battery of type 1.5 V Mignon/AA into the battery compartment on the back of the
casing, observing the correct polarity. The correct polarity is indicated in the battery compart-
ment.
After inserting the battery, the hands move to the reception position (12:00 noon), and clock
movement starts to search for the DCF signal (see chapter "DCF reception").
The battery needs to be replaced if the clock stops.
A rechargeable battery may be used, but due to the lower voltage output (recharge-
able battery = 1.2V, standard battery = 1.5V) and the lower capacity, the service life
is shorter.
DCF Reception
Immediately after the battery is inserted, the device makes a rst attempt to receive the DCF
signal. The hands of the clock run to the reception position and automatically set themselves to
the current time after successfully receiving the DCF signal.
The recognition and interpretation of the DCF signal can take 3-12 minutes. Do not
move the clockwork, during this time. Do not use any buttons!
Bad reception can occur, for example, by metallised insulated glass, reinforced
concrete buildings, coated special wallpapers, proximity to electronic devices, or
installation in cellars.
If the clock hands do not move to the current time after 12 minutes, change the posi-
tion of the clock movement and press the RESET button on the rear of the housing
using a sharp-pointed object.
This will start a new reception attempt.
The reception attempts for the daily automatic synchronisation with the DCF time is done 12
times a day. One successful reception per day is suf cient to keep the deviation to less than
one second.
The DCF signal is encoded and transmitted via a DCF trans-
mitter in Main ingen (near Frankfurt am Main). Its range is
up to 1500 km and, under ideal reception conditions, even
up to 2000 km.
Among other things, the DCF signal includes the precise
time (theoretical deviation of 1 second in a million years!)
and the date.
Naturally, this also eliminates the hassle of manually setting
summer and winter times.
Starting DCF Signal Detection Manually
Use this function if, for instance, the automatic summer/winter time conversion was not de-
tected or the clockwork has not received the DCF signal for a while.
The previously received DCF data is not deleted and the time resets itself to the time shown
previously, if the signal detection fails.
To perform a manual search for the DCF signal, press the REC button for 3 seconds.
The hands run to the reception position (12:00) and the clock movement tries to detect the
DCF signal.
Wait for about 3-12 minutes, until the current time is indicated.
