2.6 Battery charger
The Plugtronic battery charger fully maintains
the battery charge. Due to the intelligent charg-
ing, the vehicle battery is supplied carefully and
effectively with a maximum charging current of
7 A/12 VDC (5 A/24 VDC).
The climate system can therefore heat the vehi-
cle interior while at the same time the charger
provides the full battery power for the depar-
ture. We recommend the charger, especially
if you make short daily trips or if the climate
system is only used to heat the vehicle interior.
Further information is provided in the operating
instructions of the Plugtronic battery charger.
3 Operating Plugtronic
3.1 Operation
Plugtronic is very easy to operate.
To start heating the vehicle:
Connect the connection cable to the connec-
tor on the vehicle
Connect the plug of the connection cable to
the wall socket or the timer
– Note that the preheating of the engine
/ vehicle interior begins immediately if a
timer or switch is not used
Set the timer to an appropriate start time and
select the required operating period
Before parking the vehicle, users of Plugtronic
Premium without automatic control of the
climate system (EasyFan) should make fur-
ther preparations to achieve optimum results
of windscreen de-icing and vehicle interior
heating.
Set the climate system to the highest temper-
ature level
Set the de-icing setting and a low blower
level (level 1 or 2, approx. 20 % of the max.
speed)
To stop heating:
Disconnect the plug of the connection cable
from the wall socket or deactivate the timer.
Disconnect the connection cable from the
connector in the vehicle.
Completely close the cover of the vehicle
connector and place the blue cable cover on
the connector of the connection cable. Keep
the cable in a suitable place.
3.2 Recommended preheating times
The time required to preheat a vehicle varies
depending on the outside temperature, vehicle
size and engine type.
The following values are guide values.
–20ºC Start the preheating approx. 2 hours
before departure.
–10ºC Start the preheating approx. 1.5 hours
before departure.
–5ºC Start the preheating approx. 1 hour
before departure.
0ºC Start the preheating approx. 0.5 hours
before departure.
Danger!
The vehicle and / or the cable can be damaged
if the connection cable is not removed before
the vehicle departs.
Æ Decide on a sequence and make it your rou-
tine so that you do not forget the connec-
tion cable.
