ADJUSTMENT
OF
THE TEMPERATURE
The thermostat, which is situated with the interior light on the
right hand side of the refrigerator compartment, allows the
temperature of the interior to be adjusted.
Position
O
indicates that the operation of the appliance is inter-
rupted
(Fig. l-Bl). The higher the number the colder the
appliance.
To obtain the best storage of foods at an ambient temperatu-
re between 15 and 20°C. we suggest you adjust the thermo-
stat control knob to a mid position.
Internal temperatures are affected by the location of the ap-
pliance, the temperature of the surrounding air, the frequency
of door opening. The setting of the thermostat may have to
be varied to allow for these factors.
USE
OF
THE REFRIGERATOR COMPARTMENT
All items stored in the refrigerator compartment should be
wrapped in aluminium or plastic or kept in a covered container.
This prevents food from becoming dry on the surface and stops
strong smells and flavours being transferred from one food to
.
another. The coldest section of the refrigerator compartment
is
at the bottom near the glass separator. Different foods are best
stored in the following position
(Fig.
4):
Meat, sausages, fish,
etc.
should be stored at the bottom of the cavity, near the
glass shelf.
Cooked foods, meats, jellies, etc.
should be stored on the
top shelves.
Eggs, cheese and dairy produces
should be stored in the
compartments in the refrigerator door.
Fruit and vegetables
should be stored in the crisper under-
neath the glass shelf.
Important:
Do
not place foodstuffs or containers
so
that they
restrict the free circulation of air within the appliance. Do not
cover the grids with paper or plastic. Allow cooked food to
cool before storing in the refrigerator compartment.
Canned food:
once the can has been opened, transfer any
remaining food into a non-metallic container.
DEFROSTING THE APPLIANCE
Defrosting is completely automatic and thus requires no ma-
nual operation by yourself.
The defrost water flows down the rear wall through the liner
into a tray situated on top of the compressor where
it
evapo-
rates.
MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING
Periodic and proper maintenance will ensure a longer life for
your appliance.
When carrying out clean'ing or any other intervention,
always disconnect the appliance from the mains supply.
The refrigerator should be cleaned periodically with a sponge
dampened in a solution of lukewarm water and vinegar.
A
little
mist is not a defect; periodically clean where the door closes.
Never use detergents or abrasive cleaners.
The outside of
the appliance should be cleaned with a sponge if and when
necessary. After cleaning, the appliance should be dried care-
fully with a soft cloth. The condenser (black grid) at the back
of the appliance should be cleaned periodically with a soft
brush or a vacuum cleaner
(Fig.
5).
Hints for holidays
If
you plan to be away for a long time the appliance should be
disconnected from the mains supply, empty and clean the insi-
de. The door should be left open to prevent the appliance
from smelling musty.
If
you plan to be away for a short time
the appliance can be left to operate normally.
HINTS FOR ENERGY SAVING
You can save energy when operating the appliance
-
Check the door gasket; level the appliance to ensure a cor-
rect door closing.
-
Periodically clean the condenser.
-
Open the door only when necessary. Close it as soon as you
have removed food.
-
Do not overload the refrigerator: let air circulate freely inside it.
-
Do not adjust the thermostat control knob to an excessive
cold position: you will waste energy.
-
Ensure that the appliance is not installed near a heat
so
ce
such as cookers, radiators, boilers or in direct sunlight.

SERVICE
The incorrect operation of the appliance
is
not always due to a
fault, but it may also result of poor installation or usage. To pre-
vent unnecessary service calls for which you will be charged, we
suggest you consult this trouble shooting guide.
1.
The temperature in the compartment
is
not cold enou-
gh.
Check that:
-
the door is properly closed
-
the thermostat control knob is in the correct operating position
(see chapter Adjustment of the temperature).
-
the appliance is not too close to a heat source
-
the condenser (black grid), situated at the back of the appliance
is clean
-
the air flow on the top or around the applliance is not restricted
2.
The temperature in the compattment
is
too
cold.
Check that:
-the thermostat control knob
is
in the correct position.
3.
The appliance
is
excessively noisy.
Check that:
-
the appliance is not in contact with adjacent fitments which
may cause noise due to vibration
-
the condenser (black grid) at the back of the appliance and the
refrigeration system pipework at the rear of the cabinet are not
vibrating against the cabinet or each other.
Caution:
The refrigerator is equipped with a compressor that will alterna-
tely stop and run
so
as to keep the inside temperature constant.
During the first months of operation the compressor may be noi-
sy but this will progressively wane and then disappear comple-
tely. This noise is quite normal and it should not be considered as
a failure or defect of the refrigerator.
4.
The appliance does not work at all.
Check that:
-
there is not a power failure
-
the supply plug
is
making good contact with the supply socket
-
the socket has power, by connecting another appliance to it.
For Great Britain only
Check the plug fuse (if fitted). A 13amp fuse must be fitted to this
appliance. Try new fuse
-
check rewirable plugs for loose connec-
tions and tighten if necessary. Loose connections can cause
overheating of the plug: where this has occurred replace the plug.
-
the supply cord is broken
(see also Note).
5.
The interior light does not work.
Check point
4.
Unplug the appliance and remove the lamp cover. Check that
the bulb is not loose -tighten
it,
if necessary.
To
change the faulty bulb
-
(use a bulb of not more than 15W)
(Fig.
6-7):
carefully remove the lamp cover situated near the
thermostat knob, unscrew the bulb and replace with a new one.
Note:
To replace the supply cord, unplug the appliance and fit
the new cable, ensuring that it is fitted correctly.
If
you have followed the above checks and your appliance still
does not work properly, get in touch with the Service Division.
Addresses and telephone numbers can be found on the Service
Registration Card or Booklet. State clearly what is wrong and
the type and serial number of your appliance
(Fig.
8).
