Inserting/replacing batteries/rechargeable batteries
Open the battery compartment (15) and insert two new batteries of type AAA/Mignon observing
the correct polarity.
The correct polarity is indicated in the battery compartment.
Close the battery compartment.
After inserting the batteries, the DCF symbol (4) in the display starts flashing.
The radio-controlled alarm clock now attempts to receive a DCF signal (see also the chapter
“DCF reception”).
You should change the batteries, when the battery warning (8) is shown in the display.
Use of rechargeable batteries is possible. However, due to lower operating voltage
(rechargeable battery = 1.2 V, battery 1.5 V) and lower capacity the operating time will
be less.
If no sensible information is shown in the display, please press the RESET (16) with a
pointed object (e.g., with a bent paper clip) to activate the reset function. In doing so,
the internal processor is reset and returns to normal operation.
DCF reception
After the batteries have been inserted, the clock searches automatically for the DCF signal. This
is indicated by a flashing DCF symbol (4) on the display.
The synchronisation process is usually completed 3-10 minutes.
As soon as the DCF signal is decoded, a steady lit DCF symbol (4) appears and the time indica-
tor (1) displays the current time.
During summer months, the icon for daylight saving hours (2) is shown.
The detection of the DCF signal and its analysis lasts a few minutes. Do not move the
radio-controlled alarm clock during this time. Do not press any buttons or switches!
The DCF signal search is aborted manually by pressing the WAVE (14) button.
Poor DCF reception can occur, for example, due to metallised insulated glass, rein-
forced concrete buildings, coated special wallpapers, proximity to electronic devices
or in cellars.
If the current time is not displayed after 10 minutes, change the position of the radio-
controlled alarm clock and restart DCF reception by pressing the button WAVE (14).
The attempts for receiving the signal for the daily automatic synchronisation with the DCF time are
carried out several times per day. One successful reception per day is sufficient to keep the devi-
ation to less than one second.
The DCF signal is transmitted via a DCF transmitter in Main-
flingen (near Frankfurt am Main). Its range covers up to
1500 km and, and under ideal reception conditions, even up
to 2000 km.
Among other things, the DCF signal includes the precise time
(theoretically, a deviation of one second in a million years!)
and the date.
Naturally, this also eliminates the hassle of manually setting
up summer and winter times.
