Using the timers
T he system offers two timer functions. If you use
both timers, the Sleep Timer has priority .
Sleep Timer:
Y ou can fall asleep to music. T his function works
even if the clock is not set.
Pr ess SLEEP
repeat edly . If you select “ AUT O , ”
the system automatic ally turns off after the
current disc or USB devic e stops, or within
100minutes.
Play Timer:
Y ou can wak e up to a CD , FM recep tion, USB
device or an audio c omponent connected t o the
AUDIO IN jack at a pr eset time.

T r oubleshooting
1 Make sur e the power cor d and speaker
cor ds are c orrectly and firmly c onnected.
2 Find your problem in the checklist below ,
and take the indic ated c orrective action.
If the issue persists, contact your nearest Sony
dealer .
If “PROTE CT” appears on the
display
Immediately unplug the power c ord, and
check the following items aft er “PROTE CT”
disappears.
Are the + and speak er cords short -
circuite d?
Is anything blocking the ventilation holes of
the system?
After you have check ed these above items
and found to be all right, reconnect the power
cor d, and turn on the system. If the issue
persists, contact your near est Sony dealer .
Gener al
T he system does not turn on.
Is the power cord plugge d in?
T he system has enter ed standby mode
unexpect edly .
T his is not a malfunction. T he system enters
standby mode automatic ally in about
30minutes when ther e is no operation or audio
signal output. See “T o turn off the automatic
standby function. ”
T he clock setting or the Play Timer
oper ation has been canc elled
unexpect edly .
If about a minute elapses with no opera tion,
the clock setting or Play Timer se tting is
cancelle d automatically . Perform the oper ation
again from the beginning.
T here is no sound.
Are the + and speak er cords short -circuited?
Are you using only the supplied speak ers?
Is anything blocking the ventilation holes of
the system?
T he specified station may have t emporarily
stopped br oadcast.
Sound comes fr om one channel, or the
left and right volumes ar e unbalanced.
Place the speak ers as symmetrically as
possible.
Connect only the supplied speak ers.
Sever e hum or noise.
Move the system away fr om sources of noise .
Connect the system t o a different w all outlet.
Install a noise filter (available separ ately) to the
power cor d.
T he remot e does not function.
Remove any obstacles between the r emote
and the remot e sensor
on the unit, and
position the unit away fr om fluorescent lights.
Point the r emote at the system’ s sensor.
Move the remot e closer to the system.
CD/MP3/WMA player
T he sound skips, or the disc will not play .
Wipe the disc clean, and replace it.
Move the system to a loca tion away from
vibra tion (for example, on top of a stable
stand).
Move the speakers away fr om the system, or
place them on separ ate stands. At high volume,
speaker vibr ation may cause the sound to skip .
Play does not st ar t fr om the first tr ack.
Set the play mode to normal play mode.
Starting playback takes mor e time than
usual.

takes t o start playback;
a disc rec orded with a c omplicated tr ee
structure .
a disc rec orded in multisession mode .
a disc that has not been finaliz ed (a disc to
which data can be added).

Connect the antenna pr operly .
T ry another place and orientation f or better

Keep the ant enna away from the speak er cords
and the power cor d to avoid picking up noise.
T urn off nearby electrical equipment.

Bundle the antenna cable using c ommercially
available cor d clips, for e xample, and adjust the
cable length.
T o r eset the system t o factory
settings
If the system still does not oper ate pr operly , reset
the system to f actory settings.
1 Disconnect and r econnect the power
cor d, and then turn on the system.
2 Hold down
on the remo te and EQ
on the unit until “RESET OK” appears.
All user -configure d settings, such as preset
radio sta tions, timer , and the clock, are
deleted .
T o turn off the automa tic standby
function
T his system is equipped with an automatic
standby function. With this function, the system
enters standby mode automa tically in about 30
minutes when there is no oper ation or audio
signal output.
By default, the automatic standby function is
turned on.
Use buttons on the unit to turn off the automa tic
standby function.
Hold down
while the system is
on, until “ AUT O ST ANDBY OFF” appears.
T o turn on the function, repeat the pr ocedure
until “ AUT O ST ANDBY ON” appears.

FM function.

DISC ERR : Y ou have loaded a disc that cannot be
played.
FULL : Y ou tried to progr am more than 64 tr acks
or files (steps).
NO FILE : T here are no playable files on the
CD-R/CD-RW discs or in the USB device.
NO STEP : All of the progr ammed track s have
been erase d.
NO USB : No USB device is c onnected or an
unsupported USB device is c onnected.
PLA Y SET : Y ou tried to select the timer when the
Play Timer is not se t.
PLS ST OP : Y ou pressed PLA Y MODE
during
playback.

Notes on discs
Before playing, wipe the disc with a cleaning
cloth from the c enter out to the edge .
Do not clean discs with solvents, such as
benzine, thinner, or commercially av ailable
cleaners or anti-static spr ay intended for vinyl
LPs.
Do not expose discs t o direct sunlight or heat
sourc es such as hot air ducts, nor leave them in
a car park ed in direct sunlight.
On safe ty
Complet ely disconnect the power cor d (mains
lead) from the w all outlet (mains) if it is not
going to be used for an e xtended period of
time. When unplugging the unit, always grip
the plug. Never pull the cor d itself.
Should any solid object or liquid get into the
system, unplug the system, and have it
checked b y qualified personnel before
opera ting it again.
T he AC power c ord can be changed onl y by a
qualified service facility .
On placement
Do not place the system in an incline d position
or in locations that ar e extr emely hot, cold ,
dusty , dirty , or humid or lacking ade quate
ventilation, or subject to vibr ation, direct
sunlight or a bright light.
Be careful when placing the unit or speak ers on
surfaces that have be en specially treate d (for
example , with wax, oil, polish) as staining or
discolor ation of the surface may r esult.
If the system is brought dir ectly from a c old to
a warm loca tion or is placed in a very damp
room, moisture may condense on the lens
inside the CD player , and cause the system t o
malfunction. In this situation, remove the disc,
and leave the system turned on for about an
hour until the moisture ev aporates.
On heat buildup
Heat buildup on the unit during opera tion is
normal and is not cause f or alarm.
Do not touch the cabine t if it has been used
continuously at a high volume be cause the
cabinet may have bec ome hot.
Do not obstruct the ventilation holes.
On the speak er system
T his speaker system is not magnetic ally shielded,
and the picture on nearby TV se ts may become
magnetically dist orted. In this situation, turn off
the TV , wait 15 to 30 minutes, and turn it back on.
If there is no impr ovement, move the speakers
far away fr om the TV .
Cleaning the cabine t
Clean this system with a soft cloth slightly
moistened with a mild det ergent solution. Do not
use any type of abrasive pad , scouring powder ,
or solvent, such as thinner , benzine, or alcohol.
