Game overview
We are the builders and together we build houses from all
over the world. While we are building them, earthquakes,
storms, oods and forest res may occur - the natural forces
of earth, wind, water and re. Sometimes we can take
measures to protect the houses. If they do get damaged,
maybe we can repair them.
The game has seven levels. In the rst game, we build three
homes. In each subsequent game we will try to build one
more. Building all 9 houses is the ultimate challenge. But will
we then still succeed in protecting them all against the forces
of nature?
Contents
Game board, game rules, 36 home cards (4 cards for each
home), 4 natural disaster cards, 2 safety measure cards,
2 repair cards and 4 blank spare cards.
Preparations
Look at the game board to see the 9 dierent houses.
What kind of home do you have? Which house would you
like to live in?
Choose the houses that you are going to build together. In
the rst game you build three, when you succeed you can
build one more house in each subsequent game.
Collect the 4 home cards for each house that you want to
build. The remaining home cards are returned to the box.
Add the natural disaster, safety measure and repair
cards. Turn all the cards upside down and shue them
thoroughly.
Without peeking, put the cards on the rim of the game
board, on the spaces with arrows. Start with the 4 corners
and divide the rest between the 4 sides. It is OK if some
spaces remain empty.
When building 6 or more houses, there will be some
cards left. Stack these on top of the picture with building
materials. Use these cards during the game to ll the
empty spaces on the rim of the game board, until the stack
is empty.
Decide together who will start the game, for example the
player who has moved into a new home most recently.
Playing
On your turn, you expose two cards on the rim of the board,
so that everybody can see them. You can play your two cards
in any order. Of course you can ask for advice from the other
players. Below you can read what to do with the dierent
cards.
Home cards
The homes are built on the 9 square building
sites in the middle of the game board.
Both the selection of the building place
and the orientation of the home are up to
you. Of course, if a house is already under
construction, new parts of this house are built
on the same spot.
Safety measure cards
These cards can protect houses against the
forces of nature: board up your windows
against the storm, extinguish re with water,
build a dyke against the ood or reinforce the
house to cope with the earthquake. When you
have found a safety measure card, leave it face
up until you need it.
Natural disaster cards
The forces of nature (storm, re, ood and
earthquake) can damage the houses during
building. When you turn up a natural disaster
card, follow the arrow (horizontally, vertically
or diagonally) to see which houses might be
damaged. Houses that are completely built are
always safe from disasters!
If you have a safety measure, you can now
choose to use it. Both the disaster card and
the safety measure card are put in the box.
All houses are protected against this natural
disaster!
If you do not have a safety measure card, or if
you want to save it for later, the disaster will
travel over the six spaces that the arrow points
to. All cards on this line of houses that are
under construction are put next to the game
board. They might be used later with a repair
card. The natural disaster card is put into the
game box.
Repair cards
Using a repair card, you can rebuild two home
cards that are removed from the board by
a natural disaster. When you have found a
repair card, leave it face up on the rim. Decide
together when you want to use it. Once used,
the repair card is put into the box.
Game end
The game can end in two ways:
1. All houses are built: Congratulations! You are ready for the
next challenge. Try to build one house more in the next
game.
2. All cards are turned up, but not all houses have been
completed. How many homes did you build? What could
you have done to complete more? Figure this out together
and then try again!
More challenge
To increase excitement, you can add the two following rules:
1. When you turn up a natural disaster card that causes no
damage, leave it on the rim of the board. Now there is a
danger zone: as soon as a home card is built on the line of
this natural disaster, the disaster will immediately destroy
it! Of course you can still use a safety measure card to
protect the home.
2. When using a repair card, you can only repair one home
card instead of two.
